Alatarpiece of Choir

Works to repair the vault of the choir in 1780,

were probably an opportunity to build a new
altarpiece.

The Virgin Mary "having completed the course of
her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into
heavenly glory."

It is with those words that Pope Pie XII in 1950
defined the Catholic faith of the Assumption of
Mary.

It seems that the Emperor Maurice (582-603)
chose the date of August the 15th in Orient to
inaugurate a church dedicated to the Virgin
transported into heaven. The Assumption of Mary
is for all the humanity the guarantee of an hope
and a promise of resurrection.
