Altarpiece of
Our Lady of the Rosary
It is to commemorate the victory of Lepanto (Greece)
on Sunday October the 7th 1571, credited to the
recitation of the rosary, that was instituted the feast of
our Lady of the Rosary.
On this day the Occident was freed from the Turkish
threat..

The feast have been prescribed by Gregory XIII,
pope from 1572 to 1585. Then the feast was
extended to the whole of the Latin Rite
by Pope Clement XI, after a new fight against
the Saracens in Hungary, won by Charles VI in 1716.

The painted panels from the primitive altarpiece,
dated from the beginning of the 18th century have been
employed in this new altarpiece from the 19th century.

The escutcheon with the arms (a cross) of who,
undoubtedly, financed works of construction, appears
on the cornerstone and on the cornices of the pillars of
this chapel.
